Am I eligible for the NDIS?

Navigating the application process for NDIS support can be challenging. In this post, we'll guide you through the process and outline the information required to confirm your eligibility.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I’M ELIGIBLE FOR NDIS?

Several factors determine eligibility for NDIS support. You may qualify if:

K

You are under 65 years old

K

You are an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen with a Protected Special Category Visa

K

You have a permanent or significant disability needing assistance, equipment, or assistive technology for daily tasks

K

You are a child aged 0 to 6 with a developmental delay, where early supports could reduce future assistance needs.

K

If you meet the criteria and wish to seek NDIS support, initiate the process by making an Access Request, signifying your formal application to the NDIS.

MAKING AN ACCESS REQUEST

You can make an Access Request by:

K

Calling the NDIS on 1800 800 110

K

Completing and submitting the Access Request Form at nat@ndis.gov.au

K

Contacting your local NDIS office. Find you nearest office here.

K

During the Access Request process, you’ll confirm your identity and decide if you consent to obtaining information from third parties, such as existing support providers. Additional information about your eligibility and support needs will also be requested.

WHAT INFORMATION WILL I NEED TO PROVIDE?
To secure NDIS support, explain your disability, its duration, impact on daily life, and ability to perform routine tasks. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) may request evidence from relevant health professionals, such as your GP, physiotherapist, speech pathologist, or occupational therapist.

Ensure your evidence is recent and from professionals who have known you for at least six months.

The evidence should:

K

Be completed by a treating health professional relevant to your primary disability

K

Confirm your primary disability

K

Confirm the impacts on different life areas

K

Describe past treatments and outcomes

K

Outline future treatment options and expected outcomes.

If deemed ineligible, the NDIA can connect you with other service providers better suited to your needs. Solara offers various tailored programs and services to support independent living and personal growth.

CAN I MAKE ANOTHER ACCESS REQUEST?
Certainly. If your previous Access Request was over three months ago, you can make a new request. NDIS access decisions reflect the current impact of your disability, which may change due to recent injuries, degenerative conditions, or unexpected deterioration.
